He is listed on the AWM Commemorative Roll as having died at sea (Montevideo Maru), which was a Japanese "Hell Ship" which was sunk while carrying POWs.

    Poor sod - only 16

PS - I notice that the AWM has his cemetery / memorial details as unknown - I wonder if it is worth passing back to them that he is listed on the NT Memorial

I tried looking for a good photo of the memorial so we can see his name listed.

I will contact the AWM anyway, they seem pretty good at updating their records/

TYNAN Saloon Boy, JAMES (Australian), M/S Herstein (Norway) is one of the Nortraship cases I submitted to the CWGC several years ago. According to the Commissions database his name is still awaiting to be added to the Northern Territory Memorial in the Adelaide River War Cemetery. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/3173373/TYNAN,%20JAMES
