CWGC added the following casualty to the WW2 War Dead Roll today. KINGSLAND, Allan Harold Able Seaman Merchant Navy, S.S. Arizona Died 29.09.40 Age 16 Commemorated: Tower Hill Memorial, London NOT FORGOTTEN
He was originally commemorated on the PWSTS memorial, and was finally added to the Tower Hill Memorial on Sunday 3rd September 2023, which I attended his commemoration.
Cargo ship Arizona, 398grt, (Gebr. van Diepen NV Waterhuizen) had loaded a cargo of coal at Blyth for Bridgewater via Methil Roads. On the 29th September 1940 at 07.30 hours the ship struck a mine in the Firth of Forth two miles South of Elie Point and sank in position 56' 11N 02' 29W with the loss of five of her eight man crew. Including one British Merchant Seaman (KINGSLAND, A.H.) age sixteen. Allan Kingsland had no official war grave status until 2021, but thanks to the "In From the Cold"researchers, he now is officially recorded on Tower Hill. I did know he was commemorated on the PWSTS Memorial at Ingham, Norfolk, which commemorates all those Prince of Wales boys killed in WWII and was recorded in my book "They Shall Grow Not Old...."
