Hello Folks, Where to start?! I've just retired from a life of crime (as a lawyer). My interests 'til now have been WW1 and Napoleonic periods, but I am being drawn into WW2. The reason for this is due to a local connection with an SOE agent, Evelyn Aylmer Cameron. I will be posting some info and request for help very shortly on the relevant forum. I live near Shorncliffe Camp in Kent. Nearby we also have reminders of WW2. The Battle of Britain memorial at Capel and the museum at Hawkinge. I'm looking forward to joining the gang! Mike
Hello Mike and welcome - Defence or Prosecution? You're not a stones throw from my parents at St.Mary's Bay and I often go to Shorncliffe Military Cemetery. Cheers Andy
I am being drawn into WW2. Steady my nerves someone - comments like that play havoc with my perception of time. All sounds very ominous. Seriously though, welcome on board. Richard
Hi Mike Welcome to the forum. I always enjoy reading about the exploits of SOE agents so I look forward to reading what you post. Cheers Jonathan
Thanks for all your welcome messages. I'm overwhelmed! Any doubts about what to do in retirement immediately dispelled with soooo much here to read. All the best, Mike
Hello Mike and welcome - Defence or Prosecution? You're not a stones throw from my parents at St.Mary's Bay and I often go to Shorncliffe Military Cemetery. Cheers Andy Andy, 15 years defending, then 20 prosecuting. Shorncliffe Cemetery is a special place, with its 3 VCs, hundreds of WW1 and WW2 graves in the CWGC section, Belgian, Chinese, Crimean and Napoleonic graves. On a summers day, with view across Hythe Bay to Romney Marshes, it is very peaceful. if I get this right, here are a couple of pics. See you up there sometime. Regards, Mike
Some of on are ex and current coppers so I'm sure they'll be happy with your prefered career choice of the two but I do recall hearing the local CPS being called the seed of Satan Anyway back to WW2 - Have alook at this mate: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/searching-someone-military-genealogy/16449-private-percy-deverill-no5680979.html
Mike Welcome aboard. Two pages of posts and not a single lawyer joke! The boys and girls are either being well behaved or worried over about a defamation suit.
Tim you know we are always on our best behaviour when someone new joins, that is until they have been with us for 24 hours! Hi Mike and welcome from NZ.
