Laba certainly deserved a VC for his actions that day, Tommy Tobin died some time afterwards when his wounds becames infected in a UK hospital, the team leader Captain (later Major) Kealy died of exposure on the Brecon Beacons.

As an ex member of RAF Salalah 70/71 I have over the 40 years since, read a number of accounts of the Battle of Mirbat. . I agree with your sentiments but I'm sure you will agree with me that the Oman Campaign as a whole has been one of the " little wars" that get no recognition. If I remember rightly that it was only on the intervention of Sultan Quaboos that the MOD agreed to award the GSM Dhofar!!

If you are interested in the wider war in Dhofar there is a thread - accessible to non-members - on Small Wars Journal's Forum: Oman / Dhofar campaign: catch all . There are a number of books and websites to discover.
