    Hi,
My name is Eitan from Israel.
My father enlisted the army on Dec. 1939 and served till Jan. 1946.
A few weeks ago I got his military file. Unfortunately I can't figure out what is written there (names of units, abbreviations, initials etc.)
Can someone help me learn in which units my father served. I know he started with A.M.P.C 401 Coy and at the end of the war served with the 125 salvage unit.
    Any help will be appreciated.

SU = Salvage Unit. I would imagine that ERSU and ERITRN SU are abbreviations for Eritrean Salvage Unit.
There are War Diaries for 104 Salvage Unit at the National Archives, Kew. Relevant ones are:
    Jun - Dec 42. WO 169/6316
    1943. WO 169/13178
Most of the entries deal with promotions etc. In case you don't know:
P/A/LCpl = Paid Acting Lance Corporal
    A/U/Cpl = Acting Unpaid Corporal
    P/A/Cpl = Paid Acting Corporal
    W/S/Cpl = War Substantive Corporal
    U/A/Sgt = Unpaid Acting Sergeant
    P/A/Sgt = Paid Acting Sergeant

Unpaid, Local, Acting, War Substantive is a bit difficult to explain but it is to do with whether promotion is to fill a temporary or permanent vacancy etc.
