I was there a couple of years ago for the dedication of the Royal Green Jackets memorial plaque. An amazing day, taking part in a parade that must have been at least 1500 strong is something I will never forget!!! It is a place that all must visit.

    Hi Kieron
I gather the place is quite big ... so not asking for all. Just if you happen to pass any of these, I would appreciate a photo of whatever grabs your eye.

Cheers and hope the weather holds for you,
    Diane

    Keiron,
Hope it's not too late but could you perhaps ask a few questions/take some pics of the 'redundant' War Memorials section? The 'mystery plaque' from Edmonton (via Hornchurch) might end up there.
    Cheers mate,

    Mike

Just got back from the National Memorial Arboretum
and what a moving spiritual place to visit. We got there
in time to attended the Chapel service, which is held at
11am everyday of the year, even when closed for Christmas
A service is held. It was then off to the café for a cuppa
And nose around the gift shop from which I picked up
a poem written by a 11 year old by the name of Jodie
    Johnson.

    Who Are These Men?

    Who are these men
    Who march so proud
    Who quietly weep
    Eyes closed, heads bowed?
    These are the men
    Who once were boys
    Who missed out on youth
    And all of its joys.

    Who are these men
    With aged faces
    Who silently count
    The empty spaces?
    These are the men
    Who gave their all
    Who fought for their country
    For freedom for all.

    Who are these men
    With sorrowful look
    Who still can remember
    The lives that were took?
    These are the men
    Who saw young men die
    The price of peace
    Is always high.

    Who are these men
Who in the midst of pain
    Whispered comfort to those
    They would not see again?
    These are the men
    Whose hands held tomorrow
    Who brought back our future
    With blood, tears and sorrow.

    Who are these men
    Who promise to keep
    Alive in their hearts
    The ones God holds asleep
    These are the men
    To whom I promise again
    Veterans, my friends,
    I WILL REMEMBER THEM

There are two poems written by this young
Girl and they appear on the memorial of the
    49th West Riding Division, moving
Poems written by someone so young.
The site is home to over hundred memorials
Set in 150 acres of young planted trees,
You can only imagine what a beautiful
Place this will be in say another 20 years
When they have all matured, when in
The Chapel we were told that they
Have a lease on the site for 999 years
    Charged at £1 a year…some lease.
I can only recommend this as a must
Place visit, you will not be disappointed.

Photos, photos well here they come
So be patient. I managed to take
All the photo requests that people
Had asked for and more, send me
You email address and I will send
    Them to you.

49th West Riding Division Memorial, this was one of
Their first memorials, its made of wood and weights
Over 2 ton, this is the one that has the two poems on
Which were wrote by Jodie Johnson

The Basra Memorial this is one of their newest memorial
And has the names of all the servicemen/women who
Lost their lives in Southern Iraq

The Armed Forces Memorial has to be one of the most
Moving of all the memorials and being mounted on a mound
Oversees all the others on the site. When you walk up the steps
Into the memorial the white stone seems to reflect light off all the large
stone panels, which are engraved with the hundreds and hundreds of
servicemen and women who have lost their lives in all conflicts after
WW2. There also some of the most fantastic sculptures within this
    Memorial.

    This memorial holds personel attachments
As my Granddad was onboard armed merchant
Ships during WW2, I especially like the letter
Instructing the men to inflict as much damage
As possible even when their ship was sinking!

Shot at Dawn, this is a very moving memorial for
obvious reasons, 306 wooded stakes represent the
number of men shot during WW1.
