The website for the national cold-war exhibition at RAF Cosford got going a couple of days ago:
    National Cold War Exhibition
Museum opens to the public on the 8th of February for those that would like to see Valiant, Victor & Vulcan all indoors in one hall.
    I know I do.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Is that the Vulcan that's being restored back to airworthiness again?

If I remember correctly the Vulcan is being suspended from the ceiling!

    Gotta go again!

Had a bit more of a stroll through the site, the 'Cold War Archive' on the right menu is rather good, still partially under construction but a substantial amount of Info is already in there from brief squadron histories with chronological lists of aircraft used, through Polaris, biographies and onto T55. (Which in RAF parlance for that period probably had the official designation 'target')
The info seems to be of a generally better than average quality.

Got down to Cosford with Old man, brother and the boy today, cold war hall is rather good with some exceptionally imaginative display of beautifully restored aircraft. Things hanging from above at far more convinciing angles than the usual 'straight flight', best of these was a Lightning in the correct 'straight up' aspect.
Also a lovely Centurion, BMP, Leopard, Saladin, & CVR(t) to distract from all the dreary planes :peepwalla: .
They've put the Autoloading 6pdr 'Molins gun' as fitted to the Tetse Mosquito on display with a split trail... don't think I've seen it on a ground mount before, mad looking thing... made me buy a little book about the Mosquito. Went over the German missiles section with the ever impressive V2 launching 'cradle'(?), be nice to see it fully set up, bloke on site said they've got the pad part of the launcher too... must check what it was towed by.
Some pics from today... with only one from the cold war hall  :

    yeah nice gun..... MOSSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Makes plans to hijack bus to get to Cosford.*

How is the Vulcan set up? is she just in the centre of the hall or something different?

Adam is the model bomber you can bomb with and the little flyable Spitfire still in the 'childrens' area? Damn good fun.
Last time I was there I got talking to a glider pilot from Arnhem. Lovely chap.

Roughly your part of the world isn't it?
The Vulcan looks like it's just conventionally sat on the floor but as you get nearer you find her front third is hanging out into space so from the floor below it looks as though she's taking off right over your head.

The 'childrens' area is indeed still there, I reckon it's the best in any museum as it doesn't have the 'designed by commitee' feel of many, more the touch of the old boys that make the place tick. (Gratified to see that after 20 seconds of level flight my boy suddenly started with "nyeoooowww, acka acka acka" etc... he did eventually let me have a go..)

You have trained your padawan well.

Afraid me and two old boys spent a good half hour playing with the bomber. Bad Kitty making plans to visit the Ruhr. then managed to get an aileron stuck on the Spit so it wouldn't flight right. Dammit.

Yep, is roughly my area of the world, about an hour away. Plannignt o get there soon, as well as down to Duxford for the 5th May. That'll be a 5AM start.
