Thanks for all the tips guys - looking at a visit this time next year, and with all the info that has been posted here - I should be well prepared. Cheers Wendy
Yes. We're just waiting for you to post it If you mean an index, a tussle with PROCAT has produced what I've attached. Is that everything? Checked that list at Kew this week Andy and there is around 500 files missing from that brill spread sheet you did (It was a great help this week). I first thought there was some missing when I noticed there was no medical units listed. Andrea is working on a complete list
Yes, the search limits you to 1000 results and because the date ranges overlap, I haven't found a reliable way to split the search. You can use the 'Heirarchy' tab in the catalogue to see all the records in order but it becomes a big copy and paste exercise. Your approach is the best: get someone else to do it!
Oooooo while I remember, probably the most important tip at Kew. When ordering coffee make sure you get a china mug --- They are bigger (and you get more) than the throw away paper cups.

Idler, the "Build a Query" tab is useful for this. 1. First select all check boxes in "Catalogue Levels"; 2. Enter department and series code, e.g. "WO 167"; 3. From "Choose from the drop down list" in the field search, select "Piece reference" 4. Click the "Add" button; 5. Next to "Piece reference" select the ">=" symbol and then next to it, type say "1"; 6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 but select the "<=" symbol and type say "1000"; 7. Hit the "Search" button. Best to see the attached screen grab, it makes more sense: This will display files WO 167/1 to WO 167/1000 which then can be exported as a CVS spreadsheet for use in Excel, etc. The process can be repeated for files WO 167/1001 and on to the end. This is how I keep track of my own searching and copying. Once in Excel I highlight rows in different colours, e.g. Yellow - priority files to view Red - File copied in full Orange - File partially copied BLue - File seen but not of interest, etc. Lee
Hi Andrea here (Drew's Navigator and better half) The only thing I did differently was download the first 1000 records as a csv file and the re-save this csv as an excel spreadsheet. This way you can just cut and paste any extra records at the bottom of the files. Hope that make sense.
While we are on the subject there still isn't any RAMC related files in that list - Any thoughts? Makes me wonder what else is possibly missing from the list?

Hello Andy I will buy you a coffee, I missed out on bumping into some of you in Dunkirk. I will be going to go up there on the Wednesday or Thursday next week, I'm still not sure what to ask for, so I think I will use the visit to learn more on how to do things (for future visits), then anything I find will be a bonus. How do you blokes normally arrange a meet up, do I/we private message our mobile numbers, and text when in there? Cheers Adam
Hi Adam, If you are planning on stopping for an hour or two you'll get to see a few files. Do you know what files you want to copy? I'll be in the canteen until 9am. As you go towards the stairs that lead to the reading rooms (enter the main building and turn left). Opposite the museum there is a seating area for the canteen and I always sit on one of the large wooden tables with bench type seating.
