Just a couple of photos of the new memorial to the fallen of the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces since 1940.....it was a good day but spoiled by the non-stop rain and waterlogged fields.......

If you've not been there yet it is worth a visit......

And a few more....including a very wet Falkland Islands Memorial and one of a good friend of mine - one of the green eyed boys from 3 Para on Mount Longdon talking with Arthur from 2nd Battalion who I've known for a number of years and went through North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Arnhem before being taken prisoner on the road bridge.....

Looks like a rather good new memorial.
Shame they seem to have persistent drainage problems on the site, even without this year's somewhat exceptional precipitation.

Time for a re-visit I suspect - though I'm most looking forward to it when the trees are large and varied enough for it to really qualify as an arboretum... maybe not in my lifetime though.

AM, thanks for posting those. I really must try to get there soon (perhaps when the ground has dried up a bit).
I like the first sculpture you posted, (the Para pulling in a parachute?). Very much an 'action' sculpture rather than the more usual memorial type.

Couple of shots I took at the Arboretum in May - taken on a scorching hot day....

    Mike,

Close pulling in his container...or to give it it's correct name CSPEP... a housepoint to anyone who can correctly give the answer to CSPEP....

Anyone interested i have photographed all the panels of this memorial, took a long time when i only went to visit some fallen comrades from '82'. I haven't yet processed them all but if anyone needs a particular name if they could give me a date i should be able to find it quite quickly.
    Regards
