I'll be travelling through Italy next month and hopefully stopping off at a few cemeteries including this, if you are after any photos or just want someone to stop by a particular grave and pay respects just pop on a reply with name and details and I'll try my best
Thats a surprise! His brother survived to be Sgt Major Childs Malvern Battery in 1958. I will look him up. He must have died in Hospital in Naples after an incident at Anzio. Evacuated wounded due to counter battery fire circa 12th February 1944. Between February and March the Regiment lost Sgt Knight (killed by a direct hit) Childs, Miller and Morgan all long standing and experienced members due to Counter Battery Fire. Add to these at least another five in each crew, killed or wounded and the tally goes up. No1 on the gun is in command and normally a sergeant or above. He stands behind the gun so that he can see that it is loaded correctly and ready to fire. He is between the gun and the ammunition so that he can see what they are loading.
