Gunner John Thomas Lowe, 27 Kyme Road, Boston. Some references for you to look up with the newspapers. Another lad that appears to have made it back home.

Robert (Bertie) Bayne, Keirfield Cottages, Bridge of Allan. There's a possibility of a photograph in the last two articles for Robert.

Sterling work Amberdog. Is this the British newspaper archive you're using to find these or Trove?

Those last two posts were from the britishnewspaper archive, but you wouldn't know it from the format I found today. Don't know what was wrong with their site layout today.

Just a quick update. After finishing the initial transcription of the names and addresses I've not had much time to do much more investigating. However during the transcription process I did find a couple of contact email addresses which I sent messages to explaining what I was doing. A short time ago I got a reply from the great nephew of one of the names - Bob Maddren who I had managed to trace through the Auckland War Memorial Museum http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/war-memorial/online-cenotaph/record/C139564. He wrote back that he was in possession of an unpublished memoir written by Bob which had some details on his POW experiences and scanned the chapters for me. He was also nice enough to let me share the material with the forum.

From Bob's information I'm fairly certain that he and my great grandfather were both in the same work party at Gorlitz as both refer to Kommando E12403 which was located at a coal mine near Fellhammer. Bob also mentions them having some French Foreign Legion men in the camp with them which might explain where the photos of FFL men in the diary came from. As well as answering some questions for me the memoir is a fascinating little read in its own right for anyone interested in POW life.
