I am in need of help. I found a photo of a lychgate memorial in Pilsley where my Faulks relatives are from. My two great great great Faulks uncles Henry and James are mentioned in the 1914-1918 section and my great great uncles Henry and Albert are in the 1939-1945 section. All soldiers mentioned in the memorial "gave their lives" meaning that they did not survive the wars they contributed to. But there is a T Faulks mentioned in the 1939-1945 section, just above Henry and Albert. Another Faulks, from Pilsley? While my other known military Faulks relatives, are also from Pilsley and are on it too? I seem to think that maybe there is a relation to them and to T Faulks. But the question is, who is he? Maybe another brother? But the problem is, I cannot find ANYTHING. Military records, birth records or anything that mentions a T Faulks in the military or that could tell me anything at all about a relation. If anyone can maybe find any leads and find out about this mystery Faulks and if there is SOME kind of relation, I'd really appreciate the help. PS: the parents of Henry and Albert is Thomas and Martha and the parents of James and Henry is Charles and Eliza if this will help at all
There is no info on where this chap came from. Chief Officer Thomas Henry John Faulks | War Casualty Details | CWGC
I found out that chap was born in 1915 and was born in Glamorgan, Wales. My Faulks relatives are from the Derbyshire, England area
Is this Albert? Parents Thomas (10/5/1898) & Martha Hayter (22/2/1900) married 1919? Quick look indicates children are: Albert 1919 Henry 1920 Laura 1923 Joan 1924 Constance 1925 Didn't find a T, you will need to branch out to brothers, cousins I think.
Have you contacted the persons responsible for the memorial? We have often come across memorials with names that are not on CWGC. Either a typo on the memorial or the person survived a conflict and was included for whateveer reason. Also they might have used a middle name initial on the memorial because the named person used it in preference to their first name. perhaps one of our members with ancestry subscription could add further
Have you tried contacting the church? Perhaps they have original records. Looks like the link for the image used Pilsley Memorial Lychgate The use of "Originally" for the dedication at the bottom of the plaque strikes me as a bit odd. Is it a replacement, could there be a typo as a result. There have been other cases of individuals names being mistakenly included on memorial when in fact they survived.
I seem to think it's possible that there's a typo or the person somehow survived. I originally thought it might have been my great great grandfather as his name is Thomas but I don't think he joined the military and also the memorial mentions that all the men mentioned basically sacrificed themselves
Yes it's the same image used there and I believe the original memorial was stolen although I'm not sure when, so perhaps this has something to do with the "originally"
As we suggested contact the person/community responsible for the memorial they may well have records of the names
