Maybe it's a removeable bracket for an attachment like a bayonet or bipod perhaps?

    Hello,
I am gone to tell you the storie.
I was about 12 years old in 1954.
I found my dads mauser from ww2. removed the bolt
and more parts, than i fixed it again, one part left.
I tryd and tryd but did not find were to fix.
So I kept this part carefully to fix later.
I saw , fixing it on a shaft possibel you can use it
as a tool, to prick a small hole somewhere in a corner,
    What do you think ??

That is no part from any standard Mauser 98, K or otherwise.

Are you sure it was not already in the box when you started?

    Regards

    Hello
This is nothing to do with a Mauser I'm afraid - it is a driver for turning on a lathe between centres.
    Hope that helps
    Hyacynth :)

Holy mackerel Gerard, that was the reaction I had when I dismantled and reassembled my MZ bike! Lots of parts remaining that I had no idea where they belonged! And the damned bike managed to run even better than before, the Communist God bless her benighted soul
