My new book: Operation Salam - László Almásy’s most daring Mission in the Desert War We started working on it in 2008, Andras Zboray, Michael Rolke and me. The story was not really an untold one but none of the previous publications told it in its complete extend and none of them made full use of the original documents, photographs and so on. And I am very happy that we had the chance to visit most of the places in the desert along the route taken by the secret mission before this area became practically inaccessible for the occasional traveler. We were also very lucky to find a publisher who accepted to print and publish the book without having seen the photographs and without having read the manuscript - just by trust that this story is worth to be printed. For those who have never written a book on their own: In the beginning you don't believe that you will manage it. Then there is a long phase of excitement during the research... followed by an equally long and tiring phase of editing, correcting and so on. It ends at the moment where you cannot see your own stuff anymore. Then you have to wait. Until the printed book is in your hands - that changes everything and you know it was worth all the efforts (especially if the result weighs 1,9 kilo). If I am allowed to advert this new book a bit - have a look at my website for some more details: desertstories.org | Operation Salam (Book incl. Shipping)
Hi, Kuno, when I follow your link and add the book to the shopping cart, then click buy now, I am taken to the paypal mobile site, but the book title is shown as 'incedent at jebel sherif' - is this glitch at your end or with paypal?"-
...works fine on my Site, have just verified it - and I did also not note a lot of purchasing of the book "Jebel Sherif". The paypal-account itself is called "Jebel Sherif". It may be best if you just empty the basket and try from new.
Problem solved, the mobile site doesnt shoe you what youre buying at the checkout page! Book purchased, look forward to reading it.
I am keen to read your comment on it... (as long a it is a good one ;-)) will post a review in a couple of weeks. I'm sure it will be a good one!
Excellent news! I enjoyed both Jebel Sherif and Attack on Kufra so I'll be placing my order next week....after payday!
Just recieved the book today, very impressed, over 400 pages it may take a while to read and digest before I can post a review though.
Kuno, I thought that the name rang a bell with the "English Patient" and I have your book on my wish list. Regards Tom
Great book, will post a review when I've finished it, You had it on 16 feb and said the same thing... (you don't have to read all of the book to give an opinion about readability, style, searchability , too much unnecessary or too little vital information/detail, etc.).
Finally - I found the new WW2talk-Forum Many thanks for the kind words, RemeDesertRat. Always good to hear such from the readers...
For those who still need to buy "Operation Salam": The price at AMAZON UK is cheaper than what I could offer on my website although I have a certain discount since I am one of the authors.
