  1. Hello,

Thank you for letting me join this Forum. Its amazing how much information there is on here and its a credit to you all.
I've always been interested in Military History ever since i was a wee boy and and our family holidays would consist of going around the battlefields/ cemetery's around France and Belgium. I always wanted to learn more.

I'am piratically interested in Royal Artillery during the War, having served myself for ten years in the Regiment up to 2012.

    Thanks Again

    Rob

    Rob.

If you want to broaden your interest in Italy and see what Gunners got up to there, do get in touch. At Cassino on the night of 11 May 44, 1,089 guns from Eighth Army fired all at the same time. Now that is a fire mission.

    Regards

    Frank

    Welcome aboard, Rob.

Are there any particular batteries or regiments you are looking into?

    Welcome Rob,

In case you haven't seen it before, here's an incredible website on all aspects of the Royal Artillery in WW2:

British Artillery in World War 2

You'll probably already know a lot of it having served with the Regiment, but it helped me with technical terms and understanding how units were organised and operated as I researched my gunner grandfather. The arty section of the US 1942 handbook on the British army (attached below) was useful too.

If anyone wants it, you can get that whole 500-page manual from this link:
TM 30-410 Handbook on the British army : with supplements on the Royal Air Force and civilian defense organizations September 30, 1942

Welcome to the forum, Rob. It really is a first-rate place in terms of shared resources. If people here don't know it, then they'll say, but they usually have a pretty good idea about where to look further.

If you're interested in the BEF then so much the better :).
