Looking forward to see more of them ..Hey that’s a big bonus, I have lots of photos from my late Uncle Franks time in Service but precious few have any dates and places.. but I do have his service records so that’s a project all in it’s own.

    Happy days

Excellent pictures, thanks a lot for sharing!
The M19 Tank Transporter, especially its M9 Trailer, was "a bit" overloaded with the Ferdinand.

Just caught-up with this thread – great testament to your Grandfather’s service Peter - thanks for sharing.

A couple of ids for you:
I think that this is actually a Tractor, Heavy, M1.

The ‘Battered German Tank’ is actually an American M10 tank-destroyer. The other tank is a Sherman.

This is a Tiger E with an added radio set for controlling "Borgward" unmanned bombs.
It belonged to the 3 company of s.Pz.Abt. 508.
There are quite a few photos of it.

I had a tentative location for the tank and your photo confirms it. It's at 41°39'59.04"N 12°53'4.02"E

    Hi Ped,

I got it from these books. I got them copied at Kew Gardens by one of the guys already recommended to you. Would be happy to share.

    Cheers

I am sure it is this Tiger which is north of Rome so not quite 'Anzio'.

That's interesting. How do you get "north of Rome" ?

I just copied the captions and did not check the location. At present I have the map reference points for some 30+ Normandy Tiger tank wrecks in August 1944 that need to be checked/identified so am otherwise occupied. Regardless of location I was absolutely certain this was the same Tiger the second I saw it and more or less said so in my original post:

Only the conflicting locations made me hesitate to be definitive.

If its Normandy I am confident in my claims. Everywhere else check me out.

There aren't any mountains that close to Anzio.

    M 10 tank destroyer , self-propelled anti-tank gun . Not a tank.

Oh, I agree, it's that same Tiger. I said so in my first post.

But I had found a precise location for it - which I posted. It's south of Rome. If I'm wrong I'd like to know.

I rarely trust captions from books etc. I've found too many errors in them.
