my Grandad DFC

    Hi i am tring to reseach my gradad i have all his iformation and medals and 2 flight books plus letter from the king to tell him he is getting the DFC. Also have letters from bomberdier harris to him. But the big question me and my family wont to no is why did he get the DFC.

    Name: William Mark Lawrence
    DOB: 12/07/1920

    431 Squad
    croft Yorks

    he got given the DFC in 1944

    I believe Andy (Drew5233) has a full list of DFC's hopefully he will have the citation.

    Thank you for the info so far that is him cause he teached in the royal canidan air force (R.C.A.F). i was wondering if he got it for the work he did out there but we just dont no. I got to say it is very intresting reading though his 2 flight books and the pictures he taken from the plane of places.

    Thanks for the heads up Peter.

    Unfortunately my DFC books are packed for my house move. That said, as far as I'm aware the DFC books only contain whats available in the London Gazette.

    The original citation will be at the National Archives within an Air File.

    thank you for your replys i have just got of the phone with the royal air force museum and i have just provided the info they wonted. so hopeforly i will find out soon, but if any one else has any more info that would be great. also found out he was one of the founders of the Air Gunner Association

    Just a side to David's enquiry, if you look under the A/Flt Lt list a certain Kenneth Wolstonholme of 105 Sqn is getting a gong. If I'm right he uttered the immortal line, 'they think it's all over'
