When i was a kid we lived in Dortmund Suffolk Barracks 76-78 My dad was CSM of the RMP based there.
His German interpreter Herman Weider( i believe thats correct spelling of his name -surname pronounced veder) was a Stuka pilot. I was 14/16 at the time in 76-78 and remember Herman beiing a real gent. I would love too know more about him, does anyone know any way of gaining any military record info about luftwaffe pilots in ww2.
Herman is probably gone by now. I even tried finding him in Dortmund cemetry, when i went back in 2006 during the world cup finals. The staff were very helpful but he was not llisted as being at the cemetry so he may stilll have been alive or buried else where.
I remember he cried the day Dad left Dortmund
Any way any advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    John

Thank you all. I tried the kracker luftwaffe archive, without any success. I have now heard about the Feldgrau website and will try on there as well

    John,
my guess would be, the spelling is wrong. If the guy pronouced his name as Veder, in German ears that would have most likely be Wieder, Wieda, Vida or similar. I checked with the local Dortmund phone directory and found 4 names. Do you want me to call these people and ask them about Hermann? Would you have any address from 76/78 and how old do you recall was Hermann in 1978?
    Stefan.

Damn i did not get very far with this, my dad could not recall anything further about Hermann not even the spelling of his name.

John, Herman Weide was a Messerschmitt Pilot and also a racing car driver after the war before becoming an Interpreter with the Military Police, sadly passed away in 2015. Top bloke, extremely professional and well respected
