Looks cracking, Mal. I'd be very pleased if I could build like that. Is the basket on the tank from Tamiya's Churchill kit?

Jolly fantastic, have to reiterate the 'if I could model like that I'd be a VERY happy man' wonderful character there!

Many thanks for the comments, fellas.

There is a bit of humour in the model that can`t be seen from the angle of thr photo, the bloke in the cupola is looking over the wall at a Chicken wandering about. (Dinner?).

Yes, Keith, the basket does come from the Churchill kit as do the bottles within.

I`m currently working on a diorama based `Some where near the French Coast
in 1940, it won`t be 100% accurate as to the mix of units in the same place, but just to represent the confusion that was present at the time with the German Army breathing down the Allies necks. And to show as many different vehicles and units as I can squeeze in.

It will have a Matilda 2 Mk1, a Bren Carrier, a Scout Carrier, a Universal Carrier Mk1,, A Vickers Light Tank MkVIb, a Char B1 bis, an Austin 8hp Tourer and a fair few figures and maybe a Dingo Mk1.

The units I`ll be showing are Matilda= 7 RTR, Bren= 2nd Sherwood Forresters, Scout 13th/18th Hussars, the rest are yet to be decided...I`m open to Ideas.

The units mentioned probably didn`t appear in the same area together but I just want to represent a cross section of different types of unit that made up the BEF in general.

certainly don't put the Char B1 in... besides not accurate (having the B1bis together with the crammed BEF material) your diorama will be overfull (which may be your intention) and the size of the B1bis will dwarf the bren carriers to such an extent that the viewer won't pay attention to the details of the smaller vehicles.
e.g. why focussing on the chips/scratches on the bren MG when there is a chipped 75mm nearby ?

Think of it as a painting; the crammed and trashed BEF material as generic background...where do you want to guide the eye of the viewer to ? That special scene should be smaller than any of the vehicles... a wounded soldier with medication ? A german lifting up a british prisoner ?
A frantically digging brit to make a foxhole ? A brit hiding under the tanks ?
Then you're telling a story, which heightens the attraction of the diorama.
    :)

    Good ideas there.

The base is one that was built some time ago for some thing else, (a road with a slight curve to the front left, a large tree in the LH corner. It`s about 2.1/2 ft long by about 8in wide.

I had already decided that the B1 bis wasn`t going to be in it, I`ll put that on it`s own.

The Vickers will also go on another base with a 2lber AT Gun in a defensive position blocking a road at a street junction.

The `Road` one will be Carrier based with as many different versions as i can get on without going OTT eg Bren, Scout, Mk1, Cavalry, the Austin 8hp Tourer and some suitable figures, I`m also working on a Guy Mk1 Armoured Car that I might squeeze in, too.

Another route that is taking shape is to scrap the large base idea and make 2 or 3 smaller mini dioramas (easier to store and move)

Malc, you could always try say 3 or 4 smaller diorama bases that you can put together to make a seemless larger one - covers all advantages!

That is certainly some thing to think about, Mike.
