My Dad, Jim Murray, landed in Algeria in 1942 & was a 17/21st Lancers tank driver in the Allied armies in Tunisia against Rommel. He took part in the Italian campaign & was mentioned in dispatches at Cassino. He was stationed in Rome, posted to the Po Valley & then to Palestine.
My wife Catherine's Dad, Herbert W. Thom, fought at El Alamein, where he was mentioned in dispatches for manning the radio in a trench non-stop for ~48 hours. He too, served in Italy, including Naples.
We are keen to find out more about our the details of our Dads' war service, particularly the Italian campaign. We would like to know their itinary & which units they were attached to, so that we can visit some of the battle-sites & war cemetries of the war in Italy.

    Hello James,
    Welcome to the Forum.
We'll soon get stuck into some research and pointers for you.
Can you tell us your Father-in-law's unit?
Your Dad's service should be easy to tell if he stated with the 17th/21st.
Have you got their Army Numbers? Any photos etc?
