I've done a few searches on Ancestry, don't know how useful any of it is to you... From the National Probate Calendar for 1941:McCARTNEY David Robert of Hillcrest Thoresby-avenue East Kirkby Nottinghamshire died 21 July 1941 at Sutton Grange Farm Sutton-on-Tern Salop Probate Llandudno 14 November to Barclays Bank Limited. Effects £16602 14s. 9d. The following entries from the birth and death indexes would seem to be his daughter Ann, who as far as I can tell was an only child:Name: Ann Mccartney Mother's Maiden Surname: Wood Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1939 Registration district: Birmingham Inferred County: Warwickshire Volume Number: 6d Page Number: 584 Name: Ann McCartney Birth Date: abt 1939 Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1943 Age at Death: 4 Registration district: Birmingham Inferred County: Warwickshire Volume: 6d Page: 200 And finally, from the marriage index:Name: David R McCartney Spouse Surname: Wood Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1937 Registration district: Pershore Inferred County: Worcestershire Volume Number: 6c Page Number: 563 Name: Kathleen B Wood Spouse Surname: Mccartney Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1937 Registration district: Pershore Inferred County: Worcestershire Volume Number: 6c Page Number: 563
I can't see a record for him on CWGC, as Civilian War Dead or as a casualty for 21 July 1941. There are these two incidents which don't seem far away and perhaps one of them came down at Sutton Grange Farm, with David dying a couple of days later.... On 17 June 1941 a RAF Fairey Battle and an Airspeed Oxford collide on approach to RAF Shawbury. On 18 July 1941 two RAF Airspeed Oxfords collide on approach to RAF Shawbury. If it is connected with these, then the Battle might be the aircraft in which he was killed, having a RR engine, but that's about as much as I can help, I'm afraid
Kevin thank you I noticed he is mentioned on Wars Grave Project. I have mailed CWGC to see if they have further info. regards Clive
