Here's something different. I love these old photos. North West Mounted Police at revolver drill, Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, 1902. These "Pistols, Revolver, B.L., Enfield, Mark II" would be withdrawn from the force three years after the photo was taken, but the .45-75 Winchester Model 1876 carbines served until 1914. The loading position was unique to this force, there being no equivalent drill laid down by British Army Regulations for Musketry Instruction since no personnel were armed with both carbine and revolver. The N.W.M.P., formed in 1873, was organized by a British Army officer seconded to the Canadian Militia, but was better armed than contemporary British cavalry.
