The peace and serenity of Cassino Cemetery is immense on a Sunday morning.. With the bells tolling from the abbey.. And even me singing The Rose of Tralee on behalf of my Dad, CQMS Rosie O'Sullivan to his friends and comrades might be considered tolerable.
Ales let. It was good to finally meet you. Regards Frank PS. In Salerno, Cassino and Anzio from next Fri. As excited as ever about going.
I had the absolute privilege of meeting today with George Hodgson junior and his son Joseph from Edmonton and walking in the Melfa River near to where his uncle was killed 70 years ago tomorrow...
Richard No doubt you are aware the 5h Cdn AD formed a bridgehead over the Melfa with the New Westminster(B.C.) regiment - ran into trouble but held on overnight to win a V.C.for one of their Captains- he was the second Cdn V.C.in the Italian campaign- the first near the Moro/Berardi and the third on the Savio near Cesena Cheers
Hello Lesley. Followed your tour and the photos from afar whilst you were there and look forward to seeing yours.
Thanks Jonathan. Info here on Major Richard Hargreaves, M.C. (aged 95) of 4 Para, who was on the tour with us in Italy. Some fairly recent photos of him if you click the link to photos on the website. When I have sorted my photos out I will post a picture of him. http://www.paradata.org.uk/people/richard-s-hargreaves Lesley
Saved me a job Owen Lovely chap but I think I was boring him with my talk about 56 Recce  (Maybe one for the caption competition?) Lesley
Lesley. Drat. I did not realise that he was in your group. He was in Cassino town during Apr 44 if I recall correctly. Regards Frank
Paul the 16/5th Lancers were at the Cassino Station also during the 2nd battle supporting the 28th Batt of the Maori's friend of mine Major Ernie Atkins RTR - took over as stationmaster after he recovered from wounds and could no longer handle Tank duties… Cheers
