Good day to all, I am off to Cassel this coming Sunday 26th for research, and also a recce for a trip with members of the Queens Own Warwickshire & Worcestershire Yeomanry Comrades Association later this year. I was wondering if anyone has any details of the gun positions of the 209 & part of 210 battery 53rd Worcestershire Yeomanry at Cassel on the 23rd to the 25th may 1940. Unfortunately our details in the records of the Worcestershire Yeomanry have a blank page for the Cassel action mainly due to the loss of Major Cartland during his escape to Dunkirk. Also if you have also any accounts of other units at the location at the time it would be appreciated. I have the map and accounts detailing where the Gloucesters were defending and of course Harry Munns accounts of the action. Many thanks to the people on this forum. I have already been able to glean even more information by searching for Cassels. all the best. yeomanterry
Your dates are slightly out. 209 Bty's war diary ends in April but was at Cassel and 210's states they were at Wormhoudt, Ledringhem and Arneke on the 27th May. Just to complete the set 212 Bty was at Beignes with Usherforce and 211 Bty was in reserve.
Yoemanterry, Hello and welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have a good trip lined up. Regards Tom
