Marvellous category on the ever-impressive IWM Collections. None of that colourised nonsense - the real thing. (Pottered onto while looking up an image on a book cover JB posted on Twitter, so thanks to him.) Not sure how durable search links are on IWM, may have to edit: http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/listing/object-205012096 Many many images. Adam Brilliant photos. The Elf and Safety and Quality Control brigades would have a field day with that lot....oil drums as stands.....PPE-not etc etc Would have been nice to spot a pith helmet in the Vatican photo....but that could, I guess, also fit in the Officers Sartorial Elegance thread?
Must confess I'm loving it. Nearly 1400 images on there. No idea how much of their slide collection it represents or if there's more to come but it's still one hell of a heap of quality shots. Thanks so much for sharing! bamboo43, you're right. Seeing a picture in colour, rather than B&W, makes things far more immediate!
Boom! A gunner of 428 Battery, Coast Defence Artillery, pushing a gun trolley loaded with shells, as guns fire at night. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205188385
