After the 78th Division was withdrawn at Cortano my father was posted from 237 Field Coy RE to the RE Training Depot at Moascar. He served there from Aug 44 to Feb 46.
His photo album has some shots someone may be able to help me with.
    1. Where was the Garrison Church (of St. George?) located e.g. in relation to the main gate? Today's Google satellite photos are not distinct enough to pick it out, if indeed it's still there!.
    2. The attached photo entitled "SME" shows in the background the rear face of the WW1 Canal Zone monument. That being so can anyone confirm that their training ground was to the south of Lake Timsah?

    Many thanks in anticipation,
    Tuffer

I am trying to trace Major J L C Macaskill, R.E. stationed at Moascar in 1951 when he married Sheila Clear at St. George's Church. Is it possible that you can help me?

I'm sorry but this is some 6 years after my father was stationed at Moascar and there is no mention of a (John) Macaskill in his recollections.
Since the only UK BMD record I can find of JLCM is the marriage it looks like you have your work cut out! Good luck with your search.

In belated response to my own questions.
    1. The Moascar Garrison Church in fact is still there and visible on Google Earth. The old entrance to the depot is discernible (just) towards the western end of the south side (main frontage) and the church stands on the east side of the entrance.
    2. The RE SME training grounds indeed lay the west of the WW1 monument, which faces north east towards the Canal. Much of this area is now residential around Lake Timsah.
