Is there a place to find 'maps' of the mine fields of the Western desert . I would like to make some overlays to go on my Texas University maps I have downloaded
also any information about the types and layout of minefields in the desert war

I know all minesfields in Holland were drawn in, when removed in 1944/1945, they are very useful, so I presume the same is done in the Desert, would they maybe kept in EOD unit files in Kew.

    Hi John,
if you gou to Detecting your browser settings , key in WO234/7 and then browse from this File you should find what you want.
Unfortunately the Catalogue is not too descriptive.

You could also do a search for minefields in the Catalogue which will come up with some very interesting Files.

Thank Phil and Brian for input

I know that some , well quite a lot of the minefields are still there , millions of mines still still in situ , perhaps an avenue of exploration will be the de-mining ngo's , a figure of 8000 casualties since the end of the war was mentioned in an Egyptian site , and it is currently one of the most heavily mined areas on the planet , with only the coastal strip mainly being cleared , also with the deterioration and instability of the explosives proving an extra problem in lifting them
I was surprised when reading through the campaign how much the minefields dictated strategy and also the amount of damage it caused to all sides tanks and Infantry bringing many Plans to a sudden Halt in more ways than one
