    Gents

In the process of researching my family history a number of interesting questions have been raised concerning Military Units based in the Doncaster/Barnsley area during 1943/44. Has anyone any detail of Units and locations based in the area? I'm especially interested to find out if there were any US units in the area during this period.

    Cheers

    Welcome on board
You need to get in touch with the local papers and see what they have for that period in their archieves, also try Barnsley at War/Doncaster at War they should turn up some interesting items.

Thanks for tip, I've found bits about the RA up at the Hall, RAF Doncaster and the PW cage on the Racecourse. Plus there were also CMP Detachments at both Barnsley and Doncaster Railway Stations. Still looking for an explanation for some letters and GI Service buttons found among some family effects.
