Does anyone happen to have a copy of the FULL wording of the Military Training Act 1939 and/or the Explanatory Notes. Regards PeteT
Have you by any chance tried: www.legislation.gov.uk Most stuff seems to be on there, even repealed acts and even stuff like the Witchcraft Act of 179-something!
Thanks for the response; I have tried that route, but no success ..... I have been looking for the wording for quite some time now, but have not had any luck. I am also trying to find the various National Service (Armed Forces) Act amendments, but again I have only managed to find a limited number of these too ... but I will keep on searching
Shame, and a bit disappointing. Perhaps it's possible to contact them and see if they've got 'other' archives? Or a reason for not archiving it?
It looks like they are archived here "You searched for Military Training Act 1939 - Parliament Archives" Unfortunately not digitised though.
More accessible may be the traditional universities, lockdown permitting, which may still hold the annually published statute volumes or maybe even the Butterworth’s emergency legislation service annotated which you may find helpful. Reader’s tickets may be available and they may even be able to provide a copy service. The British Library may also be able to help. N.B. Statutes are often amended so it would be worthwhile to search Hansard to check.
The legislation is covered by the National Service Act 1939 which was on the statute book until 1961. The NSA 1939 absorbed the Military Training Act 1939 when war was declared and I would think that the Military Training Act 1939 would be referenced within.
