    hi can anyone out there help to decipher my uncle herbert military records i understand some of it but not all such as battles etc
    i enclose the records in jpeg format would be very grateful for any understanding of any of the above
    was wondering if the references made about herberts hospitalization had anything to do with kidney disease as herbert died of this at the age of 39

    Just had a quick glance at them. I will have a look in more detail later.

    Seems he was in 84 Anti-Tank regiment, Royal Artillery mostly in Middle East
    Then transferred to 159 Field Regiment, went to India
    Spent a bit of time ill/hospital. Thread here to explain x and y lists

    Perhaps if you would collate the pages into a time schedule - first to last you might be able to read it all better - as it is it is not too earth shattering- but an interesting account of service - hampered by indifferent health problems…

    Hello snowden,

    I noticed that your uncle went onto Airborne pay from 1 November 1944... The 159th Field Regiment, RA, converted to 159th Parachute Light Regiment, RA - which became divisional troops of the 44th Indian Airborne Division shortly thereafter.
