I have the George Medal group of medals awarded to a Liverpool City Police officer who served with the above unit. On his Army Form B199A, he is shown as embarking from Newhaven on 22 12 1944 " Misc draft CSer SGQDC Lof C CA Admn Ech Mil Govt 30 Corps" 9.4.1945 "from Mil Govt - 1st Cdn Army" 9.4.1945 " 1Cdn Army CA MG Admin Ech SOS to MG 30 Corps" 8.5.1945 MG 30 Corps SOS to MG 8 Corps" Can anyone translate the above taken from Army Form B199A
Looking at a NZealanders WW2 journey could SOS be Service OverSeaS? From: I.S.9 Captain Andrew George Robb SGQDC looks like a Draft Recognition Code. See: Draft recognition codes. CA maybe Civil Affairs.
Mark Have a record for 3 Military Government Administration Unit of 1st Canadian Army Troops, to Hannover by 8 May 45 (still under US control) from 2 Jun 45 HQ Military Government 8th Corps is recorded in Hamburg, sorry no record for 8 May 45 however the Corps HQ was in the Lübeck area. Hope this helps
30 Corps SOS to MG 30Corps TOS (taken on strength) or SOS (struck off strength) means movement of personnel into and out of a unit, i.e . departure from one unit and the entry into another. SGDQC is definitely a draft recognition code. Lesley
