    Another query.
Have come across the term No 1 I.B.D. in war diary, ref soldiers joining a battalion. It refers to "These 1st reinforcements had been evacuated from Cherbourg to Weymouth 1/6/40"
Would I be correct that it stands for, Infantry Baseline Defence?
    Many Regards

'Infantry Base Depot' sounds better as they were reinforcements

    Hi,

It’s Infantry Base Depot where reinforcements were held until required.

There were numerous such units in France in WW1 and BEF adopted similar process 1939/40.

    Hello Drew
Just wondered what IBD stood for, should have known, read of it number of times:blush: It was in regard to re-assembly of battalion after Dunkirk.
