Hello, My mate is over for his 3rd visit since my move over here ( I have never been so popular! ) I have previously taken him around potyze/ Hooge, this time I fancy Messines. I realise that there is the big memorial near the peace village, the church with its Hitler connections, and outside the Frickleton VC memorial, I was just wondering whether there are any other gems to look for. I would also like to know whether there is a 'recommended' route to walk or perhaps a map?
If the Dunkirk one is anything to go by I'd get this: Messines Ridge: Ypres (Battleground Europe): Amazon.co.uk: Peter Oldham: Books
Soren, I hope that the weather is kind to you and you have a great time walking through history. Regards Tom
Messines Ridge, I was reading today still had one of the mines still unexploded. The maps were lost and no one knows the location. Didn't a lightning strike explode one in 1955?
There is a little book caled Walking The Salient which might be useful... Now who wrote that? I'm sure I have a signed copy somewhere......
