    GEO. W. MCKNIGHT – having dispersed from Convoy ON.87 was torpedoed (the last torpedo) and then shelled and damaged on 03 May 1942, in the West Atlantic, about 40 miles West of Tobago, in position 11 19N 061 19W (Seedies) 11 08N 061 19W (Lloyds) 11 18N 061 19W (U-Boat) by U-66; the submarine broke off the attack due to accurate return fire from the ship; the ship arrived in Port of Spain, Trinidad, under her own power later that day; only temporary repairs could be carried out as there were no facilities available and she departed at the end of May for New York; she was repaired at the Bethlehem Steel Yard and returned to service in August 1942

    PAMPAS – Convoy MW.10; supply convoy to Malta in March 1942; ; arrived in Malta 24 March 1942; bombed and sunk on 26 March 1942 in Grand Harbour, Valetta, Malta whilst discharging cargo by the Luftwaffe; she suffered further destruction in subsequent raids; she was bombed no less than 18 times and was in no state to be re-floated; the wreckage remained in situ until 1950 when it was removed and only at that time could they recover the remains of the eight Maltese stevedores killed eight years earlier

    Edward Alfred Dyer was further awarded a BEM(CD) when Boatswain on FORT CHILCOTIN - Torpedoed and sunk on 24 July 1943, having detached from Convoy JT.2 on 22 July 1943, in the South Atlantic, some 370 miles ESE of Bahia, in position 15 03S 032 35W, by U-172
    The London Gazette reports:-
    The ship, sailing in convoy, was torpedoed. The engines were stopped by the explosion and the vessel began to sink. The crew had left the ship in boats and on rafts when a second torpedo hit the vessel causing her to sink almost immediately. The survivors were collected into two of the boats which were kept together until they were both picked up five days later after making a voyage of 300 miles.
    Boatswain Dyer displayed outstanding courage and exemplary, behaviour throughout. After the ship had gone down, the submarine surfaced amongst the boats. The Boatswain was taken aboard the submarine for questioning. He was returned to his boat and thereafter, during the boat voyage, he did extremely good work, setting an excellent example to all.

WALKER - Torpedoed and damaged on 29 January 1941, when in Convoy SC.19, in The North Atlantic, some 150 miles SW of Rockall, in position 56 00N 015 23W, by U-93; she was taken in tow by HMS ANTHONY and HMS ARAB, but she broke in two on 01 February 1941. The fore part was scuttled by gunfire from an Escort on 06 February 1941. The aft part sank on 13 February 1941 in position 58 15N 007 01W
