After 18 months of researching my local War Memorial, I am now in a position to pass it all on to my local library. 183 names are listed on the Rainham "Clock Tower" memorial, which commemorates the service men and women who died during both war's, and also includes the villages civilian deaths during WW2. I have written a short biography for each individual which includes a photo of their grave or a 'close-up' of their name on the relevant memorial. Sadly, eight of the names have proved impossible to identify but hopefully in time they will come to light. I have attached a couple of photos of the display that I have made in which the research will be presented. The display holds two large folders, one WW1, the other WW2. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those forum members who have gone out of their way to help me secure the photographs needed to complete my project.
    Regards,
    Sean.

That looks really good Sean, well done. I might drop into Rainham library to take a closer look when you have presented it.
Maybe I should do a similar thing for Hornchurch, I already have the Roll of Honour and a few bits of information.

Thank you both for your kind comments. Mike, I am taking it to the library today. Please give me some feed back, and dont pull any punches, as I would greatly appreciate the views of someone with a military knowledge. I have received favourable feedback from some of the relatives of those remembered, but it would be reassuring to know that the military stuff is adequately covered?
    Regards,
    Sean.

Thanks Owen and ramacal. We had a little 'handing over' ceremony this morning in the library with some local press covereage, so hopefully those missing names will come to light!!

Its a laudable project - are there any plans for the community to visit the graves or the battlefields where they fell?

Would you like to turn this into a local military history book? Send me a PM. I am collecting writers publishers and historians for Men Behind the Memorial Home

Thank you Sheldrake. I am regularly told that I should pursue the possibility of publishing my work but until I find the missing names, I could not consider it. On top of that we have found a further 76 names of individuals who, for whatever reason, were not added to the memorial. If these names are added, then I have a 'work in progress'.

    Sean.

    Thanks nicks.
In addition, I have now made a plaque which includes the 76 names missing from the memorial. This will join the display at the library, hopefully as a 'stop gap' until a more permanent solution can be put in place!!
    Regards,
    Sean.

Sean, I saw an article in the Romford Recorder online about your research and model. Do you want me to post a link?

Thanks for your comments guy's, really appreciate it. Thanks for the offer Mike but hopefully Ive managed to do it? Help get Rainham’s ‘missing’ 76 war dead added to memorial - News - Romford Recorder The article is a bit of a dissapointment to be honest, but hopefully the Advertiser will make a better job of it this week. They have also asked if they can run a series of my 'bios' over a number of weeks, showing what the project is really about. Lets wait and see.
    Kind regards,
    Sean.
