Is anyone able to get a photo of a memorial plaque to Lt. Walter Prior RNVR.
It is at the end of Dark Lane, Bognor.
Lt. Prior died while defusing a bomb there on 22nd December 1945.

    Thanks.

    Geoff

Geoff - I lived in good old Bognor many moons ago. Never heard of this plaque, although I know Dark Lane. Is it a recent thing?

Paul - It is listed in the IWM database, it could be a recent thing.
Lt. Walter Erskine Prior was the son of the vicar of Upton Warren church, in Worcestershire. The incident was a number of mines coming ashore.

Interesting; explains why I don't know it, as it is fairly recent. Fascinating stuff, though.

Paul - you must have missed it. According to the info given there it was unveiled in 1948, on a garden wall, "Strange Gardens". I've found a report in The Times, the heavy gales had brought a number of mines in from the Straits of Dover up to Eastbourne - which received 13 mines in four days. Must have been quite a hazard.

Thanks Geoff - another good reason for visiting some old haunts!
