A World War One memorial garden has opened in Maidenhead in honour of a soldier who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery in France.
Captain Thomas Tannatt Pryce of the Grenadier Guards was last seen on 13 April 1918 in a "fierce hand-to-hand struggle" at Vieux-Berquin.

    Brave man.

He died the day after my great granddad, during the Battles of the Lys.

    RIP Capt. TT Pryce.

Didn't know about this VC. I've been to Vieux-Berquin a few times as my great-grandfather is buried close by in Aval Wood cemetery - KIA June 28 1918 during the Action of La Becque.

Been there too - back in the early 90s.
One of the GG Veterans I knew wanted to go back to the 4th Bn when he was posted back to the Front in 1918.
He didnt get his wish (lucky for him, though he was wounded months later) & was sent to the 2nd Bn, the 4th was wiped out in that action that Pryce earnt his VC.
My Great-Uncle was killed with them the month before.
I knew another veteran who was posted to the cadre strength 4th Bn the next month.
They were both at the Parade in Germany when the Bn was disbanded.

I'll edit in a couple pages from The Grenadier Gazette from the 1980s when I get to scan them.
He's in the uniform of the Glosters in the photo .
(tomorrow I'll go up in loft & dig out photo of his name on Plugstreet Memorial I took back in 1989.)

edit: pages from Ponsonby's Grenadiers Guards in The Great War for those who'd like to know a bit more about the action on 13th April 1918.
