    Hi

I have been compiling a fairly detailed personal war diary for my Grandfather's experinces in WW2. He was part of the 99th LAA Battery attached to 18th LAA regiment and saw action in Iraq, Africa, Syria, Sicily, Italy, Anzio, Palestine, France, Belgium, Holland & Germany...quite a journey.

His medal rolls lists the following :

    Defence Medal
    1939-45 Star
    Italy Star
Africa Star with 8th Army clasp
    France & Germany Star

It also lists "ACC Pt 111 21/47"

Anyone know what this means ?? I know he was a cook so maybe it is something to do with Army Catering Corps but it was listed on his medal rolls which confused me.

    Thanks guys

    Ali

    Hi Ali

Can you post that page? Just to clarify it.
I think it is probably a reference to a list or something similar. maybe a medal roll.

    regards

    Robert

    GENERAL
    (a) Part I, II and III Orders.
    (b) Standing Orders.
    (c) The Army Act.
    (d) Queens Regulations,
    (e) Manual of Military Law.
    (f) Royal Warrant for Pay and Promotion.
    (g) Regulations for Allowances in the Army
    (h) Rules of Procedure.
    (j) Regulations for Army Trades and Employments
    (k) Army Council Instructions.
    (l) Staff Duties in the Field

    There are more!

ACC Pt III 21/47. This is the part of the official record (for that unit - this case ACC)used to confirm the allocation of the listed medals by showing his time in theatre. These orders were/are distributed to all offices, this would include the medal issuing office.

Army Catering Corp Part III order Serial (file reference)21 of 1947. In other words the issuing authority for the medals listed.

    Hi there,

There will probably be another Army order similar to that above, as the 1939-45 war medal is missing from the list of medals you have provided. This makes absolute sense, as the order you quote is dated for 1947 & the approval for the 39-45 war medal was not made until late 1948.

    Hope this helps.

That makes further sense in that I discovered that I was entitled to two additional unit citations as a result of serving with the 64th QM in Vietnam. My military record was updated some 30 years after my discharge to reflect the additional medal entitlements.

    Michael, it never ends,

A school friend of my father who served in the RAAF, went to the US Embassy in Canberra last year to receive his Air Medal (for Korea) & a cluster (for Vietnam).
