Hello All can someone advise on what medals the medal bar ribbons in the attached photo represent please. I believe the purple and green is for the General Service medal. And which way around would it be worn ? Thanks for your help. James
Hi, From the left - Looks like 1918/62 GSM followed by AFRICA Star and 1939/45 War medal. In that order suggests the man was a pre war regular soldier who served in North Africa for a period less than 180 days (as no 39/45 Star). Perhaps a POW or KIA? Steve
Perhaps my colour blindness has impacted on my suggestion Owen? Note to self - don’t comment on colour images in the future.
Thanks but perhaps I should have added that I believe that these were awarded to a female who served with local antl-aircraft unit. Although I have my doubts about this fact.
Not sure if those are WW2 medal ribbons although I am not a collector or expert on them. The list of ribbon colour descriptions attached might help.
My interpretation is: Left to right General Service Medal Unofficial commemorative medal for Service Suez Canal Suez Canal Zone Full Size Medal Coronation Medal Tim
Tim thanks very much indeed. There was some confusion within the family about just whose bar this was. The Suez Canal medal now makes complete sense as does the Coronation award. My previous comment re a Female being awarded them was indeed incorrect, as I suspected. Thank you all for your help. Best regards James
