Almost unnoticed, so it seems, at least by me, was the sad death of WWII historian Martin Blumenson, age 86, on 15 April 2005. Among many other works, Blumenson, who was with Patton's US 3rd Army, is known as Patton's leading biographer and editor of the Patton Papers. Here is a link to the one obituary I can find easily via Google: http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20...1j24blumen.html
I am truly saddened to hear this. Martin Blumenson was a river of writing of US World War II history. He wrote several of the volumes of the "Green Books," sorted out the "Patton Papers," and wrote a torrent of books, including "Bloody River," on the Rapido fiasco. I disagree with him about Montgomery being "the most overrated general of World War II," which found its way into "Saving Private Ryan," but I cannot argue with his writing ability and scholarship. Sorry to hear this.
