Dear Keith, If only I had the funds to bid on photos of tanks that I'm not even sure were British...
German writing on the back doesn't tell much about the nationality of the vehicle, only about the owner of the photo...
Compare it to the Mk VIB you posted earlier - they are similar but not identical. This is the Light Tank Mk VIC - a later model than the Mk VIB with air-cooled Besa machine guns instead of water cooled vickers machine guns as the obvious change. The armour was still as woefully thin.
This one appears to be from 10th Hussars (1st Armd Div) and a number of these tanks have been pictured in similar circumstances. There may be other markings on the print but I can't make them out on your posted scan.
    Cheers for posting, Nick

Thanks nick for the info on the photo, it brings it back to life. i only win the tank photos that no one wants, ie not sharp, burnt out as i do not have lots of funds to buy, the info on the back of some photos can give you a lot of info of where it was.
    Keith

Here's T2050 "Bang" currently on eBay

Captioned as knocked out near Rennes.

Wearing the 1st Armoured Sign and '8', presumably 2 RTR ?

Not so many visible markings on this one I'm afraid...

Not such a problem though Jan - there are quite a few shots of this 3RTR tank from different angles in the various books about Calais. Good to see a new angle.

'Massive' as I might say if I came from a younger generation. These Scout carriers have been seen before but from the back or side and from a distance. They are 5 Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, and it is good to see the name, as for the named tanks, Alpine Hut etc which must be nearby.

I remember this picture well. But how can this one on eBay be 100% original ...

What is meant by 'original' ? It may well be a contemporary print from the same negative. I have the impression that most photographs were distributed around the whole unit or wider as the same images turn up in albums time after time, not to mention the sale of photographic reproductions on the French and Belgian coasts by the locals.

I wonder if even negatives were duplicated for multiple reproduction.

That makes sense - so it can be an original print but not a unique print. That makes the price of Euro 68.00 for this on eBay a little steep. It will be interesting to see if it sells. I hadn't considered that the duplication of negatives might also have happened.

A current eBay auction. No markings that I can see on this Matilda 1. The photo is not terribly clear but might give an additional angle to those more familiar with existing photographs of abandoned armour.

    It's captioned France '40.

It looks as if they were caught fuelling or emptied the 'flimsies' when they abandoned.

A couple more from eBay - A Cruiser marked to 5 RTR (I think !) Nice dog on the turret !

Judging from the background, I'd imagine that this is the winter of 1940 / 41.

The same seller has a number of mounted pages but I'm not convinced that they belong together.

There's also a Bedford OX marked to 52nd Div's 155 Brigade A/tk Company. Perhaps the location of both vehicles was around the Cherbourg area ?

Unfortunately there is no 155 Bde AT Coy diary . There is a couple of mentions in the Bde diary. They were used as guides along the route to Cherbourg.
