Well, the last one's 51 HD before the HD.

And the first one might have an embarkation code on it that someone clever might be able to identify.

Thanks, I think someone clever (Rich) figured it might be Norway, not BEF.

Amazing how often the same photos come up for sale on Ebay , the ( interesting) HD Humber pic has been up dozens of times over last few years. .
Has the seller got multiple prints from the time or are they copying more ?

    Hi

I think that the Carrier with the embarkation code is actually Calais. The style of the markings and the embarkation code are consistent with 30th Bde at Calais and armour at Calais did not carry the white AFV recognition squares.

    Regards

Craig, he's selling modern scans. A bloody nuisance really. There should be a separate section for 'em !

I can't read the first part of the caption...but the second line is simply 'nach Dünkirchen' - 'Behind Dunkirk'...which doesn't pin it down much.

It says "Auf der Strasse nach Dünkirchen" (on the road to Dunkirk).

The light tanks appear to be Mk.VIc. That means they must be from 1st Armoured Division.

This has just popped up on ebay and shows 9th Lancers Mk.VIc sitting in an unknown German barracks. Seems the didn't go directly to the blast furnasses.

Some may have been used as targets on ranges. I interviewed Sergeant Ron Huggins of the 10th Hussars some years ago (he has sadly died since) and he recalls coming across light tanks of his regiment at the end of the war in Germany when they were part of the army of occupation 1945-46. I fear I lost the original tape in a house renovation (I know) but I'll dig out my notes.

PS Thanks for the info Nick.
