Couple more , one with a full house of markings .

    T2158 3rd RTR? was FME 823

T2435 1st Fife and Forfar. Is that the name TAPIR above and to the left of the census number? It would fit with PUMA T2436, PANDA T2485 and TERRIER ( anyone have a clear photo showing the census number? ).

    Cheers

Wonder if the carriers are also 10th Hussars at Huppy, there is a Vickers in background, pure supposition based on the pics being on ebay at same time from same source.

    Craig

The nearest carrier is a Bren carrier (open on right side) so, I believe, would only be part of an infantry unit. Scout carriers, open on left side, were seen in Divisional cavalry regiments but not (as far as I can tell) in the 1st Armoured Division. I think there were also Scout carriers with some artillery regiments where they did not have AOP carriers.

The 10th Hussars tank at Huppy is a Mk VIC - you can see the long 15mm BESA sticking out the front - there are a whole series of photos taken after the battle by an English AFPU officer, forget his name at the moment, but they're quite well known. This photo I've not seen before and isn't from that sequence. I'll check my research notes and see if I can come up with any more details.

Sorry Craig - I was away for a few days and missed your question. I can count six types of carrier with the BEF:

Scout, Bren, Cavalry, Universal, AOP and Loyd. Any advance on that anyone?

There is another more front end on shot of 3 RTR carrier which is still difficult to confirm the number T44(6/8)3

Nigel Watson's tome on the carriers seems to indicate that the Loyd was still under test in Oct 1940, which would suggest that it was not used by the BEF. I cannot recall seeing a pic of a BEF one, but am more than happy to be shot down if you have!

    Thanks for info Andrew.
I always think of Loyds as preceding Universal Carriers but I'm no expert! Certainly there are pictures of them with BEF, some on here.
Heres another (I think) AOS 6

There was a picture of one one here somewhere but I can't find it now. It had the Loyd shape and the BEF white square.

    Craig

You have something similar there but it is in fact a Light Dragon Mk II for towing a 2 pr A/T gun.

I'll stick to trucks and lorries ( incidentally differently defined vehicles in British army nomenclature) :)

Interesting pics , looks like some impressed civilian box vans in background. Wonder if its Douai because coincidentally just been looking at these two pictures of a Vickers and a Matilda ? captioned Douai with similar signal box and telegraph poles in background .

The Mark VIB and Infantry Mk II are quite close to each and have been seen in the same photo before. The Infantry Mk II can only be from 7 RTR but I can't make out the name from the posted pic.

    Thanks for posting, Nick

The Mk II is GAMECOCK and as you say from 7 RTR

    Cheers
