    Thanks Philip,
So as apparently a long-term student of Market garden, who now spends a fair amount of time digging it up, both in the archives and in a hole, what is it that really grabs/grabbed you about the operation?
    Purely being in the locality?
    Or something more specific?

    Apologies for my curiosity,
    Adam.

No problem, no because I was born miles away near rotterdam, as a kid I was looking for an interesting thing what happened in Holland during the War, it was a choice between Arnhem and Overloon, it became Arnhem as this was easier to travel by train, it 28 years ago now.

In August there is a (Betuwe/Island) battlefield tour by former Airborne Museum director of the airborne museum Wybo Boersma, although I have been around in that area I will attend it, and wil post some photographs later on.

64th and 112 field regiment gave good fire support during operation Berlin

Had you chosen Overloon Philip? You would have a view from one that took part in that battle.

    Interesting to hear Sapper

As working on a database about Royal Artillery units, I notice a lot of mention of this in the War diaries, and also from the unit books I am buying, so if you want to talk/ let me know about it always interested in it

Gottgard - you are probably right that I am less than neutral with the American efforts - goes back a long way I guess - when I had the distinct impression that while the regular GI was a good sort - his leaders appeared to avoid battle at all costs and various debacles that they sent their GI's into reflected badly on their
objectives - I usualy think of Kasserine - Gabes - Palermo - Salerno - Anzio and other examples not forgetting the horror of US Gen. Mark Clark's effort to destroy his own 36th Division at San Pietro - and his disobedience at Anzio - there's a lot to have a pop at !
What exactly did Bradley and Patton do when Ahrmen was being fought ?? any Ideas on that ?

Well Tom for every Kasserine you have a Crete, for every Palermo theres a Dunkirk, what about General Percival's effort at Singapore?? Why is it that you cant afford the US any respect? Their army isnt better than the British? The British werent better than the Yanks!! Give each other some credit will ya?

I would repeat you need to read up on the role and implementation of Recce troops to understand that this would not have happened. Recce troops do not form part of Battlegroups, they are Recce troops. The two roles are very different.
