Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any high-detail maps of battle areas in the North African theatre. Thanks to fellow poster Don Juan, I have images of maps used by 7RTR for Operation Compass (December 1940) and I have posted them as a resource here. By the map sheet titles, they cover Matruh, Sidi Barrani, and Salum (aka Sollum). It would be fantastic to get an image of one of these maps for the El Alamein area... Hi, Have a look at the maps available here: North Africa AMS Topographic Maps - Perry-CastaƱeda Map Collection - UT Library Online. Mark
Don't know if this site have been highlighted previously but it has some interesting maps of North Africa. They are US Army and look like they are just after the war, c1950. The index can be found here: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/north_africa/ Select the 'Index map' at the top of the list and the full extent of the coverage can be seen. As an example this is NI 32-2, the map for Kasserine area. http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/north_africa/txu-oclc-6949452-ni32-2.jpg
Seroster. Message me and I will give you an email address for a guide who does North Africa. He has been doing so for nearly 30 years so I suspect that he may have the mapping that you are looking for. Regards Frank
A word of caution re maps. If you are looking up particular map references, always ensure the grids are appropriate to the period of time you are studying. Grids were changed after the War - certainly for Europe: I'm not sure about Africa and the Middle East.
