Hi everyone, I am researching the early parts of the Battle of El Alemein in July and August and would greatly appreciate being able to convert the Grid references in the copies of the War Diaries I am using to Lat and Long so I can compare with current maps. Unfortunately I am in Australia and so it is not easy to find the appropriate maps. Does anyone know of what the variation was for Jul 42 and the formula to convert the GR's to Lat and Long. Or does someone have a scan of a map, particularly for around Tel el Eisa, with the Lat and Longs on it? lokking forward to any help, cheers, Chris
Hello Chris, Take this map for your search: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/north_africa/txu-oclc-6949452-nh35-8.jpg Look the legend, this map has the EGYPT RED BELT GRID and the EGYPT PURPLE BELT GRID that's what you need.
Hi trapperjoe! The mentioned maps are actually postwar (but not too long after). I can confirm that they are very accurate!
