Is there anyone in this group that can help translating military map coordinates (pre-war NZMG) to present day WGS48 (GPS) coordinates? The coordinates I have show an Easting of 227881.2 and a Northing of 671748.1. I'm not sure of the unit of measure, but I believe it to be yards. These coordinates are from a fort record book for a NZ coastal battery (1940-1948) and pinpoint the location of the unit's radar site. New Zealand reference datum changed in 1949 and I have been unable to find any earlier reference. Any help would be appreciated.
I was lucky enough to find coordinates for two known features using the same coordinate system as the radar installation we were looking for. From those, I was able to locate our missing installation. As luck would have it, the remains of the radar installation were removed and a house was built in its place. Next week, we approach the owners of the property for permission to erect a heritage marker on their property.
