I took this image last week at the Royal Signals Museum, Dorset. This man was clearly promoted through the ranks, serving in both Wars. An exceptional Group. Anyone have any further details about him?
That is a mighty fine rack. I suspected he may have been Royal Engineers in WW1 : http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/SearchUI/Details?uri=D6109159 Someone should be able to look up his medal card for free. Have you checked the London Gazette for commission dates etc ?
With Andy's assistance, here are some bits and pieces of info for Grigg. WW1 Medal card showing his Gallantry awards. London Gazette entry for his commission. Possibly his employment in the Post Office in 1907. I can't be 100% sure this is him of course, but it is a trade which fits for his future roll in the Engineers/Signals. I have a soft spot for such gallantry awards to personnel who have to remain where they are and perform a task requiring skill and concentration, while destruction reigns all around. This is straightforward courage and determination.
