Hello all, I'm new to the forum, and wonder if anyone can help. My wife's father is in the above cemetery, he is (from the CWGC information we found) Trooper GEORGE CHARLES TAYLOR 5441491, 45th Regt., Reconnaissance Corps, R.A.C.who died age 25 on 31 July 1944 We would appreciate, if possible a photograph. My wife's mother never got to Madras to see the grave, and it is unlikely that my wife will ever go there either. George was wounded by a Japanese sniper in Burma and died a few days later. We think he was with the Chindits, but if anyone can give more information on that would be much appreciated. Thank you, Brian S.
Paul, your response with the photograph is greatly appreciated. This was the first time Erica has seen the headstone, with obviously, very mixed emotions. We both thank you for taking the time and trouble to help us, and so promptly. Finding the forum was indeed fortunate, and we are amazed at the short time to get a result. We echo your sentiments on behalf of the Recce Regiments, for George, perhaps like all the lads, was keen to reassure his family back home that he was not in harm's way. Sadly, this was not the case. Bless you, Erica and Brian.
Erica / Brian, somewhere I have the email address for the head gardener at Madras, and if I can find it i will email it to you. P
Erica and Brian, Only too glad to be able to assist but I can't take all the credit as I thank Jamie Porteous and Phil Jennett for getting me the photo. Cheers Paul
Erica and Brian, Only too glad to be able to assist but I can't take all the credit as I thank Jamie Porteous and Phil Jennett for getting me the photo. Cheers Paul Jamie described the place as immaculate, and an island of tranquility in a sea of madness. unlike most CS+WGC Cemeterys it is now slap bang in the middle of the town.

Cheers Paul Paul, Phil and Jamie, we thank you all for your help : the cemetery is now no longer only a name, existing in our imagination; the photographs have done much to set our minds at peace, and given us some comfort and closure. Your efforts to assist so willingly are gratifying and mean a great deal to us. Thank you all, once more. Erica and Brian.
Cheers Paul, once more indebted to you. Apologies for lateness of reply ; combination of holiday absence (very enjoyable!) plus (unrelated) hospital stay (much less pleasant!) I will try to upload George's photograph to the Roll of Honour at some point. Thank you again, Brian
