    Hi Paul,

I can't speak for French Firearms Laws but if the pistol has found its way into the UK I'd be very careful about trying to restore it to some sort of working order. The Laws in the UK are quite strict (Probably the most severe next to Japan).

    Cheers

You may well have a non-relic firearm there.
I'd seriously do some legal checking on it's status if I were you, and certainly wouldn't advise you restore it at all. Not only for legal reasons, safety too; eg; can you see inside it? There could be still-live ammunition in the chamber. Old guns have killed and injured people after sitting 'safely' and apparently knackered for years.

Lots of guidance on the home office site if you search for 'firearms.

Or perhaps contact your local military museum, who may have dealt with similar 'finds' in the past?

    Just to add,

If you are concerned, if you contact the Police they will send firearms officers to you, make the weapon safe and dispose of it for you.

    Cheers

A wise move indeed Paul. Those things are far too dangerous to be messing about with!
